Before January 2013 Ends Part 1: Foreign Currency Paper Bill Collection

It all started with fun exchange of tweets between me (@BalutManila) and these awesome fellow bloggers and twitter friends, @Archieviner, @GraciesNetwork and @Travel_Quests.

@Travel_Quest mentioned that she is collecting foreign currency paper bills and I suddenly remember I used to collect that too while mentally recalling as well on where did I place this collection of mine.

I collect a lot of things.  I have STAMP, PERFUME BOTTLES, (Mcdonald’s) 101 DALMATIAN, RACE BIBS and SINGLETS, MUGS and some more collections that I can’t no longer remember because they are no longer on display at my (ware)home (LOL).  I’m a pack rat  - maybe the reason why I collect things. There are more weird things that I collected and it will need a single blog post for me to explain why I collect them.  I’m now making a mental note to make a post about this collections.  For now let’s talk about my foreign currency paper bill collection.

I started to take fancy with foreign currency paper bills when I was working with the  international operations group of a certain corporation.  Part of my job was to monitor the foreign currency exchange rate.  Back then you can ask me how much is the exchange rate of a certain currency versus the US Dollar and I can answer you in one quick second plus I’ll make you a cross reference rate of each currency (wink*).

Since I always need to look at the dollar, I used to keep a dollar bill in my office desk. Then later I think I got a hold with another foreign currency that I placed beside the US Dollar bill that I only used for reference.  It started from there and later I realized I have a collection. The collections came from different people but I remember  that the most contributor of these currencies is hubby who used to travel as an athlete delegate under the Philippine National Football Team. The other main contributor is the son of  the owner of the company where I was working.

Here’s a glimpse of my foreign currency paper bill collection.  They used to adorn my office desk and they really looked good with glass top on it.  It was from my office desk where colleagues and other people took notice of them and suddenly some of them started to pitch in a contribution to my collection.   It used to be more than this number but some of them are maybe misplaced somewhere because I still have lots of (pack rat) things boxed somewhere.

  4. This is very cool, Balut! I love collecting too - these are true pieces of history, and if only they could tell their stories. I like the Japanese Occupation 10 Pesos note, very historic. Sometimes you can find Philippine Guerilla/Resistance notes from WWII; I have one that is on pink paper, that was given to me by my wife's family. Perhaps you'll also start to collect coins sometime.

    Ingat!

    1. Naku yan talaga ang madalas ikawala ng collection pag napag-laruan at hindi na naibalik sa tamang lagayan. Kaya dapat ilagay talaga sa mga hindi mapaglalaruan.

May coin collection din ako :)

Sunday Poem and Photograph: She Who Loves The Beach

It’s the second week of the new year and the official summer time in tropical Philippines is still two months short and yet all I’m thinking about is the beach. While people were stressing themselves with the holiday rush and parties, I was busy hopping from one beach to another.  I know this sounded weird but as I’ve said on my new year's post , I’m having flighty feet lately and my body has been shouting to spend time with nature specifically to the beach.  But, family and work obligations got in the way during the summer so when I got the chance to take a vacation I grabbed all the opportunities!  The hell I care about the cold December breeze I went beach and island hopping! I even ignore a gorgeous year-end party at the Palace Pool Club and declined other holiday-related invitations. Out of itchiness and longing, I even spent time (and money) to an urban man-made beach in the city.  However, it just worsen the longing rather than it served as a temporary remedy.  The longi

Tomorrow Is Not Promised

I was going around my stuff that I packed two years ago, back in the time when I decided that I’m done with the corporate world.  I realized that I did not check back to this box-load of stuff since I packed it when I exited that world of mine. The sad thing is that, I’m digging this box because I’m looking for a document that will support a stupid system that halted something that I had worked so hard for a couple of weeks.  I was feeling upset and frustrated while doing the digging. I realized there are lots of things in this box that I really really love.  They are of no financial values.  Just the silly stuff that I can’t take away so I just keep them.  As I picked and tousled things, I came across some small notebooks where I used to write anything that I can think of  at the moment. One of the small notebooks is a favorite since college days.  It is covered with my stamp collections and in it are my favorite quotations, prose, phrases and some poems that I personally wrote.
